I used my wanderlust at 23 years old to build a company from the ground up with no start up capital, and never taking a dime from any other source. Smart decision, uninformed or adventurous? I would say, smart and adventurous, as I invested much of my profits in the company. I started My Ecommerce company in 1999, and was a pioneer in the online invitation industry.
Fourteen years into my Ecommerce company, I opened a retail store in addition to running the Ecommerce site, you know, just for fun and to pay the office rent. I had become a little restless and wanted an additional challenge. I had perfected selling B2B and B2C retail and it was time for a new adventure; wholesale was my new frontier. Within a few years time our products were sold in over 600 stores in North America.
I sold one of my companies in 2017 and added the sale of a business to my proverbial notch on my belt. Yes, I have two decades of experience but time is a number and experiences are not measured by time. Not every business will be seven figures, sometimes I wonder how I even got there. Building company culture, mentoring and empowering teams, and change management became my passion.
Market saturation, rising advertising costs, and consumer lethargy became the enemy. Through speaking engagements, consulting, writing a book and occasionally writing for websites, I have taken my experience, passion and mistakes and built a voice that resonates with others who are aspiring to start a business, thinking about selling a business, and all of the fun times in between.
